Latin & Jazz

This page covers a broad spectrum of amazing music. From the many faces of jazz music through to samba rhythms and Latino flavours of South America. Expect to hear the off-key stylings of the likes of Thelonius Munk and the smooth tones of the amazing Ella Fitzgerald along with the greats of jazz music. The Latin discovery will be a joint journey for us both and a journey I am excited to embark upon.

Introducing Määtta

A beautifully crafted journey through Latin vibes, Jazz, Disco and beyond. A well thought out mix, amazing tracks and delivered on Technics 1200s and the stunning AR4 rotary mixer from my good friend Paul Morrisey from Bozak. What’s not to like with this mix?
We only bring you the very best!

Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz – The Girl From Ipanema

My favourite and a beautiful version of the classic 60s Brazilian song by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. English lyrics (written by Norman Gimbel for Astrud’s husband João’s album with Stan Getz in 1963) were sung by Astrud at the recording session. Astrud wasn’t a trained singer but performed with an endearing naivety and innocence. Her first appearance on US television isn’t available on YT at the moment but enjoy this version.

Quick look at Ella

Lady Ella, the First Lady of Song or the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald has long been one of my favorite female singers of all time. I love the way she has the ability to sing some occasionally quite dark lyrics in such a beautiful way. Ella has quite a story, which has no doubt shaped and influenced her into the iconic legend she became before sadly leaving us in 1996. Enjoy this beautiful and at times haunting rendition of Cry Me a River.
