After watching the Turkish Grand Prix I got myself into the studio and went through the turning on of the equipment ritual, put of a Gladys Knight album, and decided what was on the agenda. As it turned out, not a huge amount to be honest. I did however solve a few placement issues today. I needed to ensure all the playable instruments, synths, and such like, were accessible. Inevitably this ended up with me requiring more cables. Now, I’ve got more leads than Scotland Yard but there always seems to be a challenge that can only be solved with yet another new cable.
The beauty of my current hand made booth is that I can interchange the sections. Today I swapped the insert that houses the mic stand and Streamdeck and 1200 turntable with the insert that just accommodated 1200 number two. This way I would have more space behind the turntable on 1200 number one up the end where all the synth stuff is and create a space for a couple of Korg Volcas, one I already have (the FM) and one that is due for delivery tomorrow (the Bass).
This solved one issue – the space. But created another one. I needed the Volcas to be angled so I can see the labels and controls so I took a look online to see the various options, the cheapest stand working out at £30 for a basic and poorly finished 3d printed affair. Then I hear the call from the house that dinner would be about 15-20 minutes. I set myself a challenge of creating an angled stand that houses two Volcas side by side and gets the first coat of paint on before dinner.
18 minutes, a few offcuts, and a lick of paint. Job almost done. After dinner, another quicksand, a lick of paint, waited to dry and sanded to give it the worn effect of the booth. It’s no piece of fine furniture but does the trick nicely and cost £0.
So, not a crazy day but I listened to a lot of very good music, did some more wiring, sold my Ableton Push 2, ordered a few more cables, and solved my kit placement issue (for now).
